Fellowship one another

1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
The greatest beliefs and doctrines of our faith must always come down to very real and practical expressions. We cannot believe the things that we do and live in contrary ways. We cannot have the hope we have not express it in our character and conduct. We cannot know Christ and have His indwelling Spirit and not express this in our relationships.
The greatest expression of Christ in the world today is the body of Christ, the church. This therefore requires of us relationships that are a demonstration of His presence in us. Of course, the church must also demonstrate His presence in the way we relate to the world, but before we could do that we must have things right amongst ourselves.
So here, in the text we are contemplating, the Apostle John places the fellowship that we have with one another right in the middle of our walk in the light and a declaration about the efficacy of the blood of Christ in the cleansing of our sin.
A plain reading of the verse in context makes our fellowship with one another a clear manifestation of the fact that we walk in the light and that our fellowship is testimony of the cleansing by the blood of Christ.
Fellowship is everything. For Apostle John, the reason the Gospel is shared is that those who are changed by it may have fellowship with those who are already saved. A fellowship that the saved have with God and with His son Jesus Christ (verse 3).
Broken fellowship with one another is broken fellowship with Christ.
Think of these things:
- Do you have real fellowship with believers beyond attending meetings with them at church?
- Does the church provide enough opportunities for fellowship among the saints?
- What should you do to make your fellowship with the saints active and productive?
Prayer focus:
Let us pray today that our fellowship with each other would be a testimony to the world that we are the Body of Christ.
In His Grace
